WiinVi v0.3 Alpha

Time for your daily fix of the WiiCR Team’s latest media player app release. Going hand-in-hand with their WiiCR player, the Windows Vista skin WiinVi just got an upgrade. The theme is now up in v0.3 Alpha and one of the biggest features is that you can easily allow you to select different drives through the interface by clicking on the computer icon on the QuickLaunch Bar.

Here’s the full changelog for the WiinVi v0.3 Alpha theme:

* Icon Backgrounds Transparent
* Made the Forward and Backward buttons on the image page stay mostly still
* Made the Image on Imageview Clickable (jumps to next Image)
* Made mp3 player look like rest of the theme
* Several other random tweaks and fixes
* No Internet Radio yet

Note that you first need to have a copy of the WiiCR media player itself installed. Once that’s done:

1. Extract the files in the WiinVi v0.3 Alpha theme to the themes directory (C:Program Filesxampphtdocswmcthemes)
2. Access the Settings section in WiiCR
3. Click the Theme Selection Box, Change the Value to the Theme you want to use
4. Press the “Change Theme” button

Portable Wii “mod”

If you thought that the GBA-Wii mod was portable enough, here’s something that’s a little easier to handle. No need to strain your eyes with a GameBoy-sized screen, and no need to check where your Wii remote cursor falls on the screen every time you try to aim. This one involves a 10″ Poloroid portable DVD player.

PSDoom told us about his setup and we checked it out. He used a small jump battery with a 75 watt, 12 volt car AC adapter to power the Wii, while the DVD player is self-powered.

Sorry for the earlier confusion when we used the word “mod” to refer to this setup. Wrong choice of word. It’s not a “mod” in the sense of soldering stuff, breaking seals open, and voiding warranties. It’s a unique setup, a workaround, if you will, that’s great for picnics. Time to take your Wii outside.

WiiCR v0.3.1.2

WiiCr Team’s media player application for the Wii.

Here’s the list of stuff that’s changed for this version:

* You can search the shoutcast db now.
* Empty genres removed from shoutcast quicklist
* Swapped back to current mp3player - it still has issues on opera, Ive tested 4 other ones that have similar results. Our flash coders are looking into it. Worst case scenario will be broken mp3 support until official Opera release.

If this is your first time to encounter this app, we recommend you click on the read link to get the lowdown on WiiCR, from installation how-to’s to version history, and tons more. But if you’re up to speed on the latest goings on in WiiCR, then you can just go right ahead and…

So what exactly is WiiCR?.. (more…)

Mod: Why not Wii on GBA?

Here is a 2 minute game play video of titles Wii Sports and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. So why is this news? Because the Wii is being played on a Gameboy Advance screen! I don’t see any advantages to this except maybe portability? Or sister hogging the TV.

Awesome Mod unfortunately i don’t have a tutorial for you, yet!

Nintendo Wii 480i and 480p component cable how to

The Nintendo Wii ships with a composite video cable that is capable of 480i resolution. Currently first party component cables, which allow for 480p resolution, are available through retailers and directly from Nintendo. However, when attaching the component cables, one loses the ability to output composite video. Why is this an issue?

Well, it may be that you take your Wii over to friends houses frequently and would like to only have to take a single cable. Or, you may be like me, and use a monitor for your Wii’s display. Using a small transcoder box, such as the Mayflash YPbPr to RGB transcoder, that only supports 480p. In which case, when a game only supports 480i, as is the case with many GameCube games, you’re forced to switch cables.

Luckily, this cable does them both. We’ll take a standard first party component cable, and a few buck worth of parts from Radio Shack and put together a cable that is selectable between composite and component output.

Check out Instructables for detailed how-to instructions.

Control your PC from your Wii

Access your Computer from your Wii.

Although the Wii does not support VNC or other methods to remote to your home PC there is a way around it. Just by using www.logmein.com. I have been using logmein for quite some time now to access my home computers through work. Basically get to their website create an account (this must be down on your PC that you want to access) Follow the on screen instructions and setup your passwords it will also install a small application on your home PC. Once your done, just go onto your Wii and point the Opera browser to www.logmein.com. Login with your user name and password that you just created and you should now see your home PC under the computer list. Click it and connect, you can now control your home PC, if you need to change a mp3 thats playing or check up on a CD burning etc.. Enjoy!
